Governors

At Hormead, as in every school, the Governors play a vital role in the leadership and management of the school. The headteacher of the school is responsible for day-to-day management of the school and provides the vision and drive for school improvement, while the role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic management, and to act as a "critical friend", supporting the work of the headteacher and other staff.

The Governing Body is responsible for managing and approving the school budget. They can decide how many and what types of staff to employ, which equipment to upgrade or replace and what the priorities are for implementing new strategies and initiatives.

Governors must appoint the headteacher, and are involved in the appointment of other staff.

Governors also have a role in monitoring the school's progress, and in setting annual targets for the school's performance and the performance of the headteacher.

At Hormead we have a total of 13 governors. These are made up of elected representatives of the parents, teaching staff and non teaching staff. As a Church of England School the Dioces of St Albans can nominate representatives as can the local education authority. Governors serve a 4 year term before they must be either re-elected or nominated.

The Governors at Hormead are:

Mrs Jackie King: Chair, Mrs Nancy Medlicott: Vice chair, Mrs Emma Russell, Mrs Amanda Radwell,Mr Richard stride, Rev Carol Kimberely, Mrs Kay Jones, Mr Peter Mitchel, Mr Michael Johnson, Mr Stuart Taylor, Mrs Karim Kingsley, Mrs Dani Maley and Mrs Fiona Hughes.
